Anthony Smith, an Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) war Veteran who receives his care at the Memphis VA Medical Center, was featured in the December 21, 2010, national publication of USA Today. The article entitled Veterans get boost designing new careers, discussed Smith’s devastating war injuries and his incredible comeback and zest for life.

Smith, a black belt karate expert, was one of 100 Veterans who received a fellowship and stipend from The Mission Continues, a St. Louis-based organization, to start his Martial Arts School. Smith teaches martial arts to low income kids and for all age groups. Smith said, “I wake up now knowing somebody is counting on me.” Smith has been featured several times in the local news media and in the most current version of the VISN 9 sponsored training video, Keeping the Promise.
