Message from the Director
The Memphis VA is supporting a local initiative to promote the health and wellness of our patients, visitors, and employees. On May 1, 2007, the city of Memphis announced a city-wide plan to stop smoking on all hospital grounds. The motto of the city-wide plan is "Memphis is All-In to Go All-Out Against Smoking."
Starting August 1, 2007, all smoking of any kind by patients, staff, and visitors will be limited to the two smoking shelters on VA Memphis medical center grounds. See our facility map for locations of the shelters. No open air (outside) smoking will be allowed on the contiguous grounds of the medical center.
The VA Medical Center at Memphis will provide a healthy environment for patients, visitors, and employees. There are several established programs to aid those patients who would like to quit smoking. Assistance will also be provided for those veterans who have other nicotine addiction concerns. Should you have any questions regarding smoking cessation programs, please contact your Primary Care Provider (PCP).
